If you’re an Angry Birds fan and a space geek, this may be the best video you’ve seen all year. Angry Birds creators Rovio announced the first real details about Angry Birds Space — with a little help from an astronaut aboard the space station.
Rovio teamed up with Flight Engineer Don Pettit of NASA to explain the space-related physics of Angry Birds Space, which launches March 22. Pettit used the zero-gravity of the space station, which he said was about 240 nautical miles above the surface of the earth, to explain the new mechanics of the brand new game. He uses a bungee cord to launch a plush Angry Bird through a weightless environment.
Many of the game’s elements will involve figuring out how a bird will fly in a weightless environment, or how to use the gravity of planets to curve their trajectory to smash those pesky pigs.
Angry Birds Space has 60 new levels of content, and will be available on iOS, Android, Mac and PC on launch day.
We can tell from the screenshots and the video that there will be new birds, including one that looks like it is able to freeze structures. Rovio also promised regular free updates for those who purchased the game, hidden content, and new items for purchase.
Along with the app release, Rovio said they will be releasing books and other retail elements for Angry Birds Space on March 22 as well.
